Uniform
Troop 615 is a fully uniformed Troop. The Scout uniform helps to achieve
the objectives of Scouting. The uniform by itself cannot make a good
Scout or a good Troop, but it is a visible symbol of Scouting and unity.
Uniforms and insignia are worn a certain way. The Troop leaders and staff
at the Scout Shops can answer any questions you have on where to put
what badge. Inside the cover of the Handbook, there are guides for badge
placement.
We have three classes of uniform, and some other minor variations;
these classes are called Full Class A, Class
A, and Class B.
- Note
- The Scoutmaster and/or the adult leader in charge of an event
may permit or require variations to these rules, to fit the circumstances
of an outing. For example, on long hikes, special hiking socks and
shirts are recommended instead of BSA apparel.
Full Class A
Full Class A uniform consists of Class A, as defined below, plus the
merit badge sash for all Scouts (even if the Scout has no merit badges
yet). Red beret must be worn (or green beret for Eagles with Bronze Palms
or higher).
This uniform is required for Courts of Honor, Scoutmaster Conferences,
Boards of Review, and some external events such as Honor Guards.
Class A
Scout Class A uniform includes the following:
- BSA tan shirt with all approved insignia and patches
- BSA shorts or slacks
- BSA belt and buckle
- BSA green socks with red band
- Troop 615 red beret (Eagles Scouts with Bronze Palm or higher may
wear the green beret)
- Troop 615 neckerchief (Eagle Scouts may wear National Eagle neckerchief
or bolo)
- Scout-appropriate neckerchief slide
For adult leaders, Class A uniform includes:
- BSA tan shirt with all approved insignia and patches
- BSA shorts or slacks
- BSA belt and buckle
- BSA green socks with red band
- Troop 615 red beret (Eagles Scouts with Bronze Palm or higher may
wear the green beret)
- Scout-appropriate neckwear is optional
A Troop 615 or plain white or gray T-shirt may be worn under the Class
A shirt provided the underlying shirt does not show below the sleeve
ends of the Class A shirt.
Class A uniform including the beret is worn for the following occasions:
- At all times during travel to and from scouting events of any kind
- During flag ceremonies at camp or in public
- At other public BSA functions not requiring Full Class A
At regular Troop meetings, Class A uniform but without the beret is
required for Scouts, and strongly desired for adult leaders.
Class B
Scout Class B uniform includes:
- Troop 615 T-shirt
- BSA shorts or slacks
- BSA belt and buckle
- BSA green socks with red band
- Optional outing and Scout appropriate headwear, including BSA 'baseball
cap', wide-brimmed hat, etc.
Adult Class B uniform includes:
- Troop 615 T-shirt
- BSA shorts or slacks
- Scout-appropriate belt and buckle
- BSA green socks with red band
- Optional outing and Scout appropriate headwear, including campaign
hat, wide-brimmed hat, etc.
Class B uniform is worn at PLC meetings, patrol meetings, on hikes,
while in camp, etc.
