Useful Information for Scouts and Adults

This page has been organized with the material most often needed by Scouts towards the top, and material needed more by adults lower down. Of course, the information for Scouts is also useful for the adults!

Advancements and Leadership

Here is a page that describes how to get achievements signed off in your Scout Books, how to get merit badges, and how to get Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review.

Here is a PDF document that lays out what the troop expects from Scouts in leadership roles, together with a form you must sign agreeing to abide by these expectations. All Scouts applying for leadership positions will be required to read and sign this form.

Camp Gadgets

Here are some diagrams of useful camp gadgets. Practice your lashing skills at the next outing by building one of these for your patrol!

Flag Ceremony

We have a 'cheat sheet' for the Standard Flag Ceremony. The duty patrol leader at a meeting should make sure he has a copy!

Life To Eagle

For those about to embark on their Eagle Project, read the marked-up Eagle Workbook and this checklist. You should discuss this with your Life to Eagle mentor before starting any work.

Links

Here is a page of links to other interesting Scout-related web pages, including information on merit badges.

Logbook Ideas and Forms

Here are some ideas and suggestions for your Log Books, including a log form, ideas to get started, and what you need to have in a log book.

Here is a table in Microsoft Word or PDF you can use to record events, nights camped, miles hiked, service hours, etc. in your Log Book.

Meeting Guidelines

Read these guidelines for announcements and presentations at meetings.

Patrol Forms

Patrol Leaders should use the following forms:

Permission Slip

A permission slip is required for each scout desiring to go on a troop outing.  It is imperative that this is turned in, as it functions as a medical release.  A boy may not attend an outing without a permission slip.

Download a permission slip in the following formats:

Photographs

Information about the troop photographs on Flickr.

Rosters, etc.

Troop rosters may be obtained from here. This document is password protected; to get the password, call an adult leader or the web master. Please do not ask someone to email the password to you; email is not secure, and the rosters contain private information.

While the primary email addresses are in the Troop Roster, some families want email addressed to multiple addresses (such as both parents, or work and home). A complete listing of all email addresses that parents wish to have used is in this Word document, and a listing of all committee member email addresses is in this Word document. As with the Troop Roster, both of these documents are password protected.

Service Form

To get service hours officially counted by the troop, use this form. (pdf) (doc )  Print one, fill it out, and give it to Mr. Shollenberger.  Be sure to keep a copy for your logbook.

Uniforms

The Uniform page describes the correct troop uniform for various Scout events.

Information Mostly Intended for Adults

Adult Leaders

All parents should read the information about Adult Leader Training. Training is required for many positions.

The roster contains a list of current leadership roles. If you are a parent and your name is not on this list, please sign up for a vacant position! Talk to the Committee Chair about how you can help, and what each position involves.

For tour leaders, here is a blank Tour Permit, and the Council's Tour Permit Policy.

Medical forms

For Scouts and adults requiring new medicals, here are the Class 1-2 and Class 3 forms, both in PDF.

Organization, Bylaws, etc.

You can download copies of:

  • A one-page flyer with basic Troop information in PDF or Word formats.
  • A longer Guide for new Scouts and their parents (pdf) (doc )
  • The Troop Bylaws
  • A Particpation Agreement for all Scouts. Scouts in or applying for leadership positions must also sign the more specific contracts mentioned above.

Scrip Programs

The troop offers two scrip programs; one by Gift Cents and one by eScrip. More information, and order forms for Gift Cents, may be found here. Money earned from these programs goes into individual accounts for your Scouts, and can be used to pay for rechartering, Summer Camp, optional outings, etc. You are strongly encouraged to participate!
