Outing in a Can

This page contains the information required for an adult leader to plan and run an outing.

TBD - more information should be provided here, including recommended timelines, etc. Meanwhile, adult leaders should seek early guidance from the the Scoutmaster, and get assistance from the Troop Committee.

Here are a number of documents needed for a typical outing:

  • A cartoon illustrating why outings are so important (also shown below!)
  • A checklist for the boy leader
  • A sample flyer
  • A sample sign-up sheet
  • A blank permission slip
  • A sample drivers matrix (arranging transport to and from the event)
  • A local tour permit (for trips less than 500 miles)
  • A national tour permit (for trips over 500 miles)
  • Orange County Council's tour permit policy
  • The Guide to Safe Scouting
  • A sample Waiver form (this one from Sea Base)
  • A form to get a BSA Certificate of Insurance

Because some of these sample forms contain personal information, the entire set is provided as a single password-protected zip file. You know the password!
