Meetings

Meetings are held at the Presbyterian Church of the Master (PCOM) on Monday evenings from 7:00 until 8:30 PM, unless the calendar indicates otherwise.  PCOM is located on the corner of Marguerite and Oso in Mission Viejo.

Meetings follow this pattern each month unless indicated otherwise:

  • 1st week: Patrol meetings for Scouts, and the monthly Parent Meeting in parallel.
  • 2nd week: Regular Troop Meeting; the Senior Patrol (SP) meets 30 min early.
  • 3rd week: Regular Troop Meeting for the 1st and 2nd months of each quarter;
Court of Honor (CoH) in the 3rd month.
  • 4th week: Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC)
  • 5th week: In those months when there is a 5th Monday, we will generally have no meeting.
  • Committe meetings are normally on the first Sunday of each month
  • We normally hold at least one overnight outing per month
  • We hold other outings and activities such as day hikes once or twice per month

Attendance

All Scouts are expected to attend troop meetings. If you cannot attend, let your patrol leader know (and give a reason) before the meeting. All Scouts should attend a good percentage of outings; while there is no absolutely fixed number, we recommend Scouts attend at least 2/3rds of all outings. As with troop meetings, if you cannot attend an outing or event, let your patrol leader know.

PLC should be attended by the leadership - that is, the SPL (Senior Patrol Leader), ASPLs (Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders), Troop Guides, Patrol Leaders, and Scribe. Other Scouts do not attend PLC.

At least one parent from each family should attend the monthly parent meeting.

All registered adults are committee members, and are welcome to attend committee meetings. If you plan to attend, let the Committee Chair know in advance so that appropriate facilities are available.

Meeting Guidelines

  • Announcements... 2 minutes or less.  Scouts are to learn the mechanics of making announcements by stating who, what, where, why, when, and how in a clear manner.  In most cases, 2 minutes is plenty of time to convey the information and raise awareness.  A little practice at home will help Scouts prepare for their time in front of the Troop.
  • Presentations (minor)... 5 minutes or less.
  • Presentations (major)... 20-30 minutes.
  • Patrol Meetings... when a Troop Meeting night is the designated Patrol Meeting night, the Patrol Meeting shall begin directly after the opening.  All announcements and presentations will be conducted after the Patrol Meeting portion of the night's agenda.
