Troop Announcements and Flyers

The Troop Roster was updated on November 5th. The parent email list, and committee member email list were updated on October 16th.

Please use these new lists for all communications. If you notice any missing or inaccurate information in these documents, please contact Scott Diener, Dave Lubowe, or Nick Crossley. These documents are password protected; if you do not know the password, call an adult leader or the web master (Nick Crossley). Please do not ask someone to email the password to you; email is not secure, and the rosters contain private information.

Here is the Scoutmaster's report on the rocket launching outing at El Mirage Dry Lake, October 24-26th.

On Sunday November 16, join us for a behind the scenes tour of the airfield at LAX! See the flyer, and don't forget your permission slip!

The Resources page now has some information for Adult Leaders on conducting Boards of Review.

Here are some press releases issued by Troop 615.

The troop calendars for September, October, November, December 2008, and January 2009, and an updated long term calendar, are now available.

A Merit Badge Day, sponsored by Troop 792 and approved by Troop 615 leaders, will take place Saturday, February 7, 2009 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 17500 Bushard, Fountain Valley (S.E. Corner of Bushard and Slater). Download the event informational flyer and registration form here. There will be no on-site registration; registration must be received by January 24, 2009. Cost to attend is $20 for up to two classes.

Our troop is helping at the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on November 9th. We need at least 15 boys and at least 5 parents to help: right now we have 7 boys and 3 parents. You will earn service hours by helping. See the flyer, and/or call or e-mail Kyle Hutchinson.

The shooting sports merit badge weekend is scheduled for November 7th - 9th at Camp Trask. The event is hosted by the San Gabriel Valley BSA Council. On this weekend the scouts can work on either the Rifle, Shotgun or Archery merit badges. Scouts cost for the weekend is $68, adults $35 and the cost covers the equipment usage and meals Saturday and Sunday. Payment for the outing is due no later than October 20th, checks should be made payable to Troop 615 and we will be collecting at the troop meetings on the 6th and the 13th.

Reminders for the event:

From the Scoutmaster: a checklist for Troop 615's practices and expectations at our outings.

The Gift Cents scrip order form has been updated. For more details on this program, see the scrip page.

Application forms for Scouts and Adults are now available on the Resources page.

“Boy Led / Boy Run, Adult Guided” are words that need defining so we can all understand how our Troop operates. Here is a position paper from the Scoutmaster.

Tour leaders, please note: the web site has updated versions of the Local Tour Permit, National Tour Permit, and the Council's Tour Permit Policy. The Resources page and the Outing in a Can also have the updated documents. Permit applications will be denied if old forms are used! The canned outing download now contains a copy of the Guide to Safe Scouting, which is required for all tour leaders.

The Resources page is a useful source of forms (such as Patrol Menu and Duty Roster forms, and blank Permission Slips), documents (such as the Leadership Contracts, Participation Agreement, etc.) and other information including diagrams of various useful camp gadgets. Use the search page to find information on this and other pages.

Monthly meetings follow this pattern each month unless the calendar indicates otherwise:
  • 1st week: Patrol meetings for Scouts, and the monthly Parent Meeting in parallel.
  • 2nd week: Regular Troop Meeting; the Senior Patrol (SP) meets 30 min early.
  • 3rd week: Regular Troop Meeting for the 1st and 2nd months of each quarter;
Court of Honor (CoH) in the 3rd month.
  • 4th week: Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC)
  • 5th week: In those months when there is a 5th Monday, we will generally have no meeting.

The troop has revised and clarified the policy on Scouts attending Merit Badge Days. All Scouts should read this policy, and note that prior approval from the Scoutmaster is required before you attend these events.

Plan ahead for the National Jamboree in 2010! See this link, and read the flyer.

Try out our search page, provided by Google! Now you should be able to find all the information you need. You can access the search page from anywhere using the new link at the top right of every page.

The Photos collection on Flickr now has nearly 6000 pictures! Do you have photos from any recent Scouting events? We want these pictures for our collection - and you can then use that collection to find photos of your Scouts for Courts of Honor and other celebrations, or just for fun! The full process of how to participate and how to provide pictures for the collection is explained on the Photos page.

There is now an official and up-to-date site for merit badge information.
